Modules:      WLD1010, WLD1020

Materials:   Access to the internet, t-shirt, transfer materials, color laser, handouts (maps, exemplars)

Assignments:

“Conservation vs Preservation” Assignment - Compare and contrast “conservation” and “preservation” as they pertain to wildlife. Use examples from Alberta and/or Canada and/or the rest of the world to demonstrate how different governments, cultures and groups are handling the environment in both conservation and preservation issues. Create a 6 slide power-point presentation (definitions, 2 examples each of conservation and preservation) explaining your findings. GROUP PROJECT (3 PEOPLE MAX)

“Wildlife Is…” Assignment - Create a personal definition of wildlife. Base the definition on legislation, personal experience and relationship to the outdoors. Design and make a t-shirt with a slogan or logo reflecting yourself and the outdoors. The slogan must be “clean”, simple and personal. For example, “Give me a tarp, axe and fishing rod and watch me go!!!!”, “Best part of the great outdoors…… no plug ins”, “The Great Outdoors is a video game free zone”. The slogan can go part on the front and the rest on the back of the shirt, or be all in one spot.

“Maps R Us” Assignment –Select one of Alberta’s ecological regions – other than the one that Hanna is located in – and write a short description of it. Make sure you describe the flora, fauna and physical description and map of the zone. Give examples of the human interaction in that ecological region. Point form is fine, but it needs to be organized. Make sure to use at least two sources of information and include them in the bibliography.
